Media Contacts

(Washington, DC) Today the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) began the construction activities for the U Street NW Streetscape Project. The project area includes a 0.4 mile segment U Street, NW between 9th and 14th Streets and all critical work is scheduled to be completed by spring 2013, weather permitting.

Today and tomorrow the contractor, Capital Paving, will be installing construction warning and project identification signs at both ends of the project limits. Beginning Tuesday, June 12 through Friday, June 15, the contractor will begin laying out electrical conduit, sawcutting for electrical trenches between 9 and 14 Streets; and installing electrical conduits on the 900 block. This work will continue through June 25.

Construction activities during this electrical work will not impact pedestrian access to the sidewalks and/or businesses. However, parking will be temporarily impacted between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm during this phase in the immediate work areas.

Pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists are advised to us caution as they travel through or near this work zone and to plan ahead to minimize delays while traveling through the corridor.
