HIPAA Compliance Implementation in the District of Columbia
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by Congress in 1996 as a component of incremental healthcare reform. The law requires that "all healthcare organizations that maintain or transmit healthcare information must comply." Organizations that will have to comply will include, but may not be limited to:
- Delivery Networks
- Health Plans
- Healthcare Clearing Houses
|
|
- Healthcare Providers
- Individual Physician Offices
|
Not only are the District of Columbia's operations greatly affected by these rules, but our healthcare provider community is also affected. To organize
compliance efforts for all covered entities in the District of Columbia, Deputy Mayor for Children, Youth, Families, and Elders Carolyn N. Graham
established the HIPPA DC Program Management Office HIPAA DC PMO. For more information, please contact the HIPAA DC Program Director
