Mayor Anthony A. Williams hosted a celebration on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the District's 19th annual citywide observance of the national holiday. Mayor Williams also presented the 2004 "Living the Dream" awards to the honorable Mayor Walter E. Washington (posthumously) and the Washington School for Girls. Mrs. Mary Burke Washington accepted the honor on behalf of the late Mayor Walter E. Washington.
