Mayor Williams announces the opening of the District's Unified Communications Center (UCC) in Southeast DC. During an emergency, the state-of-the-art communications center will serve as the National Capital Region's hub for emergency response. Joining Mayor Williams at the ribbon-cutting were US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and other regional and local representatives.
