Mayor Williams Declares November 18-20 "Neighborhood Action" Weekend

(Washington) Mayor Anthony A. Williams declared the weekend, Neighborhood Action weekend in honor of the kickoff celebration and Citizen’s Summit to be held at the Convention Center on November 20th.

The Citizen’s Summit is an ambitious city-wide planning session designed to bring the people of the city together to define a shared direction and unity of purpose for the District.

“Together, we’ll set goals for each neighborhood, and instill a sense of ownership in the achievement of those goals, said the Mayor. “Finally, and most significantly, we will develop a working partnership that will sustain our efforts over the long haul.”

The mission of Neighborhood Action is to empower citizens to improve their communities by mobilizing and coordinating the resources of government, business, nonprofits, the faith community, neighborhood leaders, and the citizens themselves. The initiative will:

  • Build on existing neighborhood plans;
  • Set realistic, but aggressive, timelines for visible results;
  • Align the District’s budget priorities with citizen’s priorities; and

Develop a strong, working partnership that will provide long-term sustainability.
