Mayor Honors Members of Congressional Black Caucus
(Washington, D.C.) Mayor Anthony A. Williams hosted a reception this evening at the Washington Court Hotel for members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in honor of their 29th Annual Legislative Conference.
During the reception the Mayor paid special tribute to the Congressional Black Caucus, to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton for her tenacious advocacy of District interests and to Congressman William "Bill" Clay (D-MO) a founding member of the CBC, who is retiring after 31 years in Congress.
"It is an honor for me to host this reception for members of the Congressional Black Caucus," said Mayor Anthony A. Williams. "The Caucus has been a strong advocate for the best interests of urban America, particularly our Nation's Capital. We appreciate their tremendous leadership on Capital Hill for national policy that is inclusive, compassionate and fair," the Mayor added.
The reception featured entertainment by Yolanda Adams, gospel Grammy award winner and Marcus Johnson, local jazz musician and popular recording artist.
Approximately 20 members of the Congressional Black Caucus were in attendance.
The gala reception also brought together the Washington regional elected officials such as Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan and Prince George's County Executive Wayne Curry, among others, several visiting Mayors, District Councilmembers, White House representatives and other national and international elected officials.
More than 600 people attended the event.
