Mayor Launches District's Web Site
www.washingtondc.gov is a Major Step in "Gold Standard" of Customer Service

(Washington, D.C.) Mayor Anthony A. Williams announced the launch of the District's web site, www.washingtondc.gov during a press conference at One Judiciary Square to give residents easy access to government services and up to date information about our city.

"This web site represents my commitment to provide a gold standard of customer service, and to make the District of Columbia the premiere "e-government" in the nation," said the Mayor. "Part of providing excellent service means making those services more accessible for residents."

Services currently available through the site include:

  • Access to basic information about the government
  • E-mailing the Mayor
  • Service requests relating to potholes, trash and snow removal
  • Access to press releases, advisories and the Mayor's public schedule.
  • Up-to-date information about community events, the weather, school, street and government closings.
  • Emergency information
  • Online vehicle registration

Over the next year, the District will phase in full implementation of the site, eventually providing a fully integrated "digital democracy."

The Mayor will hold his agency directors accountable for ensuring that their web sites stay up-to-date, and that all of the agencies fully integrate their sites with this homepage as soon as possible.

The Mayor also restated his commitment to eradicating the "digital divide," so that all D.C. residents will have access to the same online services. The D.C. Public Library offers access to the Internet in all 26 branch libraries. The city is also creating Community Technology Access Centers to provide internet access in schools, libraries, public housing, community-based organizations, colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, community businesses and other points of public access. Finally, services available through the web will continue to be available by phone at 727-1000.
