Mayor Williams Appoints 26 People to Boards, Commissions, and Advisory Committees

(Washington, DC)- Mayor Anthony A. Williams will swear-in 26 people to 14 city Boards, Commissions, and Advisory Committees in a ceremony at One Judiciary Square in Room 1030 South at 6 pm today.

"I am pleased that so many of our citizens have chosen to take on an important challenge by making the decision to serve our city," said Mayor Williams. "I'm glad that we have broad-based involvement from residents from across the city. Their service and involvement is critical to our revitalization efforts."

When Mayor Williams assumed his office, there were more than 450 vacancies on DC Boards and Commissions, compromising key regulatory and oversight functions. Many DC Boards did not have a quorum and could not function. The Mayor named almost 500 appointees in his first year in office and is committed to ensuring that Boards and Commissions function well.

The following are the appointees named today to DC Boards, Commissions, and Advisory Committees:

  • District of Columbia Tobacco Settlement Financing Corporation Board of Directors: Michael V. Hodge, Yvonne Wills, and Natwar M. Gandhi
  • Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors: Dr. Abdusalam H. Omer
  • Public Employee Relations Board: Leroy D. Clark
  • District of Columbia Police and Retirement and Relief Board: Lieutenant Cheryl Peacock
  • District of Columbia Advisory Committee on Acupuncture: Dr. Shi-Hua Wu and Dr. Sakiliba Mathilde Mines
  • Board of Dentistry: Sibyl L. Gant
  • Mayor's Health Policy Council: Dr. Kim Bullock
  • District of Columbia Commission for National and Community Service: Barbara Gordon
  • District of Columbia State Mental Health Planning Council: Alfreda Davis
  • National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws: Honorable Joan Zeldon
  • District of Columbia Recreational Trails Advisory Committee: Ellen Jones, Lorna C. Morgan, Jocelyn E. Manson, Hillary Elizabeth Quarles, and Stephen A. Morris
