(Washington, DC) Mayor Anthony A. Williams made the following statement today after the House Government Reform Committee approved HR 5388, the District of Columbia Fair and Equal House Voting Rights Act of 2006, legislation that would give the District a voting representative in the House of Representatives.
I am extremely pleased by todays committee vote approving HR 5388. It shows that Democrats and Republicans can come together to agree on at least one thing that its undemocratic for the residents of the District of Columbia not to have a vote in Congress. I hope that the members of the House Judiciary Committee will give this bill the same prompt and favorable consideration.
